Cerritos College selected to compete in Battery Workforce Challenge

Cerritos College was selected to participate in the Battery Workforce Challenge, a collaborative program between the U.S. Department of Energy, Stellantis, and Argonne National Laboratory.

Focusing on hands-on learning and industry collaboration, the three-year competition challenges student teams to design, build, test, and integrate an advanced EV battery into a future Stellantis vehicle. The winning team will receive $100,000 in prize money, industry-related awards, and invaluable networking opportunities. Cerritos College’s automotive and mechanical engineering students will be teaming up with students from California State University, Los Angeles, for the collegiate competition.

The college’s Advanced Transportation and Logistics Center, automotive technology program, and the MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement) program will collaborate to facilitate the Falcon student team.

MESA is a new academic support and professional development program for students working towards science, technology, engineering, and math degrees, offering exclusive scholarships, internship opportunities, industry field trips, university campus tours, counseling, and transfer assistance.

The Battery Workforce Challenge was created to build the next generation of engineers, technicians, and workers to address the unprecedented demand for a domestic EV/battery workforce and support the U.S. goal of net-zero emissions by 2050.
